The Henderson-Vance County Downtown Development Commission (DDC) was formed for the purpose of

  • To combat deterioration in downtown Henderson;

    • to identify, foster the development of promoting and undertake projects that will improve the quality of downtown Henderson;
    • to collect and interpret information concerning business and investment in downtown Henderson;
    • to identify projects involving public spaces, including pedestrian ways, parking lots and spaces, parks and open space, streets             and traffic patterns, and            facade improvements in downtown Henderson; and to implement and assist in achieving these improvements;
    • to identify spaces in need of buildings and buildings in need of improvements, renovation or demolition in downtown Henderson; to propose plans for such buildings and spaces; to identify and solicit funds for such projects; to spend or leverage Corporation monies to implement such projects; to serve as a resource for information concerning the use of tax credits and other economic aspects of development in the downtown;
    • to undertake community activities designed to bring people to the downtown;
    • to coordinate the actions of the private sector to make downtown projects more feasible and to further the overall quality of downtown Henderson ;

  1. To undertake other activities related to the downtown, provided, however, that no activities shall be undertaken which
  • are not permissible activities for an exempt corporation organized under Section 501 (c) ( 3) of the Internal Revenue Code and
  • are not lawful activities for a corporation organized under Chapter 55A of the North Carolina General Statutes

Meeting Schedule and Location:  The DDC meets regularly on the third Tuesday of each month at 4:00 p.m.  Due to the current restrictions imposed during COVID 19 Pandemic, all meetings will be held online using known technology platforms.  A video link will be provided for the public to review all open board meetings.
